Ruth was inspired by Naseem Darbey after seeing her at Bradford College and began to create freehand machine embroidered pieces but on a much smaller scale and button brooches were the perfect medium. Ruth BA, MA, Ph.D is a design historian and has a library of some size which is fantastic for ideas and inspiration. Ruth is the primary artistic of the team creating much of the applied freehand machine embroidery. Email: ruth@sheer-sumptuosity.co.uk John leads Sumptuosity and has taken it from craft fair to a proper business; business development, marketing, branding, sales, production, planning, photography, website are all in his remit but he still does his fair share of cutting silk, ironing, sewing up lavender bags and making up the brooches &c. Email: john@sheer-sumptuosity.co.uk Barbara moved to York at the very early stages of Sumptuosity and immediately got involved; she is a great support for Sumptuosity, as well as making-up the brooches, mirrors, lavender bags and notebooks, Barbara 'loves' admin, she has a great telephone manner so takes all the calls and deals with the sales when people come in to buy from the studio. Sophie joined the team last July, started as a design assistant but now is finding her feet and developing her own styles and abilities and is now something of a junior designer; Sophie does all the Alice in Wonderland range and we're tasking her more & more with some of the freehanding and the ideas and creation of the monthly limited editions. |
